I appreciated the conversation about "race" as a construct that does not really exist (scientifically), but is used to categorize and divide. Yet, it is a word that is used today. Is there a way not use it in conversations about race or racism?
Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to not use "race" as a means of talking about racism. The ripple effects of the construct have left scars on our history and have continued to define our culture. To suddenly stop using the language would be on par as pretending it never happened (i.e. practicing "colorblindness"). The question is how we can use our white privilege to dismantle it and that begins, I think, with acknowledging the reality of race as an invention, like a man-made disease, and its effects on our society.
